Every student can learn. Just noton the same dayor in the same way.– George Evans
CYC helps create new schools designed specifically for teens re-entering high school or those on the verge of dropping out of school. These youth often face additional barriers that can interfere with education: pregnancy, parenting, homelessness, court involvement, child welfare involvement or full-time employment.
CYC evaluates the continuum of alternative options that a school district currently has in place and helps with the creation of new options in partnership with the district to serve those students struggling in traditional schools.
Futures Academy serves students ages 17 to 21, who have too few credits to receive a traditional high school diploma, but are still interested in furthering their education and pursuing a post-secondary degree.
Through a partnership with CYC and Aurora Public Schools, students are provided the resources, guidance, and targeted academic instruction that will allow them to leave Futures Academy with an associate degree, a Pickens Technical Certificate, a GED, or a combination of the three.
- Served 302 students
- 47 students earned their GED Certificate
- 49 Technical Certificates earned from PickensTechnical College
- 35 students were concurrently enrolled at the Community College of Aurora with 56 classes passed
