Honoring Community Changemaker Dr. Mordecai Ian Brownlee

Dr. Mordecai Ian Brownlee is a nationally recognized higher education leader and the president of the Community College of Aurora, one of Colorado’s most diverse colleges. Guided by a deep commitment to educational access and economic mobility, he has dedicated his career to creating pathways for students who have historically been overlooked or underserved by traditional systems

Under his leadership, the Community College of Aurora has achieved record enrollment and expanded workforce-aligned programs that connect students directly to high-demand careers in healthcare, public service, skilled trades, and emerging industries. His work focuses on removing barriers to opportunity and ensuring that every learner—especially opportunity youth and first-generation students—has a clear pathway to a meaningful career and a prosperous future.

Dr. Brownlee is a frequent national speaker, columnist, and podcast host, and he serves on several national boards advancing student success and workforce innovation. Above all, he considers his greatest calling to be helping individuals discover their purpose and transform their lives through education.
