Honoring Community Changemakers Jim Toft and Nubia Madrid

Jim Toft and Nubia Madrid are both CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS™ with Edward Jones and have been active volunteers and supporters of Colorado Youth for a Change for over a decade. Jim served as a board member for six years and served as Chair in 2020. Together they’ve served meals during special occasions; provided tutoring to students; assisted with resumes and financial literacy for AmeriCorps members; and so much more.

Nubia is first generation born of Mexican immigrant parents. She was raised in Globeville and was part of the inaugural class of Daniels Fund scholarship recipients.  She was the first in her family to graduate college, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in aerospace, as well as her Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering with an emphasis in computer aided manufacturing. After a 15-year engineering career, Nubia joined her husband Jim and became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™.  Through the Tamarac Optimist Club, Nubia has been a pen pal for several Spanish speaking 5th grade students. She actively volunteers for the Daniels Fund, and in 2024, Nubia was a speaker for the graduating Daniels scholars.

Jim’s roots consist of a small Colorado town and a single mom. Each time he veered “off track” there was a big brother, a coach, a teacher, a boss, a grandparent, or uncle steering him back. Jim feels incredibly fortunate to have the right people at the right time speak into his life and help guide him. After becoming the first in his family to graduate college, Jim felt a deep desire to pay it forward and become a mentor for our youth. This desire is what led him to cross paths with Colorado Youth for a Change. Jim has served as a Big Brother and built houses with Habitat for Humanity, but his biggest passion is coaching youth basketball. Jim has been a volunteer youth basketball coach for over 15 years. Several of the boys and girls he has coached over the years are now clients in his financial practice. Jim takes great pride in impacting the lives of our youth and is passionate about seeing them grow into prosperous young adults.
