Inside the CYC Recruitment Team

by Cassie Dubov, Talent Acquisition Manager at Colorado Youth for a Change

At Colorado Youth for a Change, we are hiring 380 AmeriCorps members to serve in one of our four AmeriCorps programs for the 2023-2024 school year. Our recruitment team is pivotal to ensuring that Colorado students get support through our AmeriCorps members! They are responsible for recruiting and supporting our members through the application process.

Meet our Recruitment Team

Cassie, Talent Acquisition Manager (she/her)

How long she’s been at CYC: 7 years in August – I started as a Corps for a Change AmeriCorps member in 2016.

Favorite thing about working at CYC: I get to work alongside great people doing incredibly meaningful work.

What she’s learned at CYC: So much! More than anything, I’ve learned the importance of unlearning.

Why she thinks someone should serve with CYC: It’s a life-changing experience!

Emma, AmeriCorps Recruiter (she/her)

How long she’s been at CYC: Emma served with Corps for a Change during the 21-22 school year, and has been recruiting for about one year – 2 years total in August.

Favorite thing about working at CYC: My favorite thing about working at CYC is how true the entire staff is to our core values as an organization. It creates a great community and helps us to better support our AmeriCorps members!

What she’s learned at CYC: I’ve learned how to understand and practice equity through my actions, both at work and in my personal life.

Why she thinks someone should serve with CYC: Service with CYC is an opportunity to build on necessary skills for your future, while helping students do the same – your students usually teach you the most along the way.

Emily, AmeriCorps Recruiter (she/her)

How long she’s been at CYC: 10 months

Favorite thing about working at CYC: The people I get to work with every day, and being able to connect candidates to our programs who are passionate about working with students.

What she’s learned at CYC: I’ve learned how to work towards my personal and professional goals and have built confidence in myself through the work I am doing and because of the support I have at CYC.

Why she thinks someone should serve with CYC: Serving in CYC’s programs is a great way to gain experience in the education field and get involved with your community.

Georgia, AmeriCorps Recruiter (she/her)

How long she’s been at CYC:  Georgia served with Math Corps during the 2022-2023 school year and then became a part of the recruitment team this June, specifically recruiting for our CYC Math Corps program!

Favorite thing about working at CYC: All of the laughs and memories with my students and the CYC staff.

What she’s learned at CYC: It is important to make those around you feel heard and valued, whether it’s your students or the staff you work with. Doing this will give you and your students a safe place to grow and will also open many opportunities for you.

Why she thinks someone should serve with CYC: Serving with CYC is an amazing experience. It will get your foot in the door in the educational industry, but more importantly, it gives you the opportunity to be a positive role model to our youth!

At CYC, our recruiting process starts with being out in the community. As ambassadors of our programs and CYC, our recruiters attend events across Colorado to spread the word about our AmeriCorps opportunities. From college and high school career fairs, to workforce development center events, to community events, you can find our team there! Since January, the recruitment team has attended 29 events.

Our AmeriCorps members are a diverse group of people from all walks of life. Members come from a variety of age groups, career stages, and locations throughout Colorado. This is very important to us as we seek to place members who can represent and relate to the diverse experiences and identities of students. It sounds like a cliché to say that anyone can serve, but we really mean it—no experience is necessary and we provide comprehensive training throughout the year.

So where are we at for this upcoming school year? We have 8 Early Learning Corps, 96 Reading Corps, 38 Math Corps and 27 Corps for a Change members hired for a total of 169 members so far! We still have spots available in all of our programs—with start dates in August, October, and January.

With our first start date coming up on August 14th, we are still hiring for folks to get started then for a couple more weeks. We will have two more start dates in October and January, meaning we will be recruiting and hiring for the 2023-2024 school year until mid-December! If you or anyone you know is interested in serving with us, apply on our website or reach out to Cassie at cassied@youthforachange.org.
